Erich Horat was born and raised in Switzerland. At sixteen, after finishing high school, he began his education as an automotive technician and he started an apprenticeship at a new car dealership. After 4 years, he graduated and passed the state exam. After that, he worked as a technician for several new car dealerships while also continuing his education to become a certified automotive diagnostician, passing the state exam successfully after two and a half years of study. He then went to work as a volunteer at the Swiss Technical Trade School, the top school for automotive education, and studied to become a master technician. Erich graduated and passed the state exam with excellence after 18 months of study in 1995. After that, he worked for new car dealerships as a service advisor and shop foreman. He also worked as a teacher and instructor at the trade school to educate automotive apprentices.
In December 1996, Erich came to the Bay Area for an 18 month job assignment at a shop specializing in the rebuilding of Mercedes-Benz and ZF transmissions. Little did he know that the Bay Area would become his permanent home. Since then, Erich has worked for Import Motors and Germany’s Best Inc., starting as a technician, becoming shop foreman, service manager, general manager and partner.
In the meantime, Erich has added ASE certifications A1 to A8, L1 and Service Advisor to his list of licenses and degrees. He is a certified ASE Master technician, Enhanced Engine Performance technician and he also holds the Enhanced Smog technician license.
Erich’s vast experience and knowledge is widely recognized throughout the Bay Area. It doesn't come as a surprise that several other independent shops and used car lots regularly use Erich’s expertise and knowledge to help them with their customers’ car problems.
